Termite Damage.

Termites damage the wood from the inside, out. You probably won't see anything until the damage is considerable.

The damage could not be seen until we probed the wood. The termites damaged this floor joist to the point that it is now so weak that it barely supports the floor above. This illustrates that damage can happen unseen.
