Termite Damage.

Above: Damaged corner of the house close to the ground and downspout. We get calls for the above situation often. Sometimes it's water damage and sometimes it's Termites. Sometimes it's active and sometimes not.

The only way to be sure is to have it checked. Simply changing the wood without a determination may be just feeding the Termites new wood. Installation of pressure-treated wood is recommended here, but Termites can easily tube up behind it to get to the non-pressure treated wood behind.

A determination first is essential.
