When the larvae are big enough they cap themselves over and the larvae will mutate to an adult inside their own cell. The adults hatch by chewing their way out. We removed some larval layers to show one of the capped layers. Many of the layers in this nest were capped. This one layer has about 100 capped cells (count them). This means the nest population was about to increase dramatically. Many customers tell us stories of little stinging insect nests that suddenly became large nests. As more hatch then more are available to build. That's why small nests do suddenly get bigger.
